Application of Water Jet Cutting in Composite Material Cutting

Publish Time: 2019-06-06     Origin: Site

As everyone knows that a composite material consists of two or more kinds of materials, it is a new performance material which is formed through physical or chemical methods.

It not only has a non-uniform composite structure, but also has inconsistent melting points in the composite layers. so hot cutting

process is not the good choice, And the traditional processing method is prone to two kinds of defects: one is the damage of the

incision, the other is the layering between layers.Now,water jet cutting is undoubtedly the best choice to solve these problems.

Why?

First, ultra-high pressure waterjet cutting is a soft jet cold cutting, it  doesn’t cause thermal reaction or hot cracking . Second, the

cutting head is suspendedon the surface of the workpiece avoiding contact and destruction of material while cutting . For soft

composites suchas plastics, man-made fiber, etc., it can be cut with only water cutting. For hard composites such as metals and

non metals, you need to choose abrasive cutting . Because the abrasive cutting can cut the metal part or the non-metal part of the

composite material, the cutting section is smooth and non-destructive.
